How many people do you think is left with this feeling when they realise that have not been keeping an eye on their credit rating. We should all have a mental post-it note that said "remember to check my credit rating." We have now gone in to the year 2008. We have a better collective knowledge base than ever before. But still there are so many people the do not keep up with what has now become one of the basics of personal finance. Credit rating...
Why is it that important you ask? It is important because there is no other rating out there that can either ruin you or make your life good.
Your credit rating is a score made up from what is in your credit report. Your credit report is your personal finance history and it is available to many different people. Are you applying for a new job? Your credit report is going to be checked out. Need a new credit card? Your credit report is going to be checked out. What about insurance? Your credit report is going to be checked out and the worse it is the more expensive your insurance will be. So get that mental post-it note up and keep it there.
All have the possibility to check their credit rating for free once a year. Well this really goes for your credit report, but you can get that with a rating if you choose to. There is also the option of keeping a closer eye on it but that usually will not be free of charge. It all depends on why you need it and how stable your personal finances are.
